To provide a method and an apparatus for casting metal by which an ingot having no cut-off surface on the surface and sound internal part can be obtained, by flattening the solidified interface for preventing the development of crack on the ingot due to the concentration of solidified shrinkage stress caused by the development of locally recessed part on the solidified interface which ends its solidification finally after reaching the upper surface in a mold, and partially controlling the heat conduction from the mold for preventing the development of casting defect, such as blow hole, micro-shrinkage, caused by the closure of the solidified interface of the molten metal in the mold at the inner part of the ingot, in the casting of a blank for plastically working used for the working, such as cold forging, hot forging, closed forging, rolling, extrusion, roll-forming, of the metal of non-ferrous metal, such as aluminum, magnesium (containing the alloy, respectively) and iron and steel, etc., or in the direct casting into a product (cast product) and to provide a ingot.
In the casting method of the metal performed by filling up the molten metal 6 into a closed mold 2 of which a part of the inner surface is constituted of the end surface of an opening/closing plug 5 and a part of which is constituted of a cooling member 1, the heat conduction from the mold member 2 containing the cooling member 1, is partially controlled according as ingot shape, the position and the number of a molten metal pouring holes 4, and the solidified interface 6b is solidified so as to reach the end part of the inner surface of the mold 2.
