Abstract:
PURPOSE: To compress an operation compensation video signal without requiring a detection means for a quickly and complicatedly changing scene. CONSTITUTION: A set of picture data is compressed without operation compensation to obtain a first compressed video signal 34. A set of picture element data subjected to operation compensation is compressed to obtain a second compressed video signal 36. Data of first and second compressed video signals are quantized, and they are compared with each other to discriminate which signal includes less data. Continuous sets of picture data quantities are successively compressed and quantized, and the compressed video signal including a smaller quantity of data is selected for each set. Selected signals are encoded for the purpose of confirming whether they have subjected to operation compensation or not, and they are combined for transmission to become a compressed video signal data flow.
