PURPOSE: To remove disturbances of defects in shape in every factor and to carry out high-precision control of shape by adjusting the amount of cooling liquid in accordance with the manipulated variable of coolant obtained from a fuzzy inference operation by using the absolute value of shape deviation and the deviation of shape and position of a shape detector.
CONSTITUTION: As a method of shape control of a rolling mill 1, the shape of a material 5 to be rolled is detected by many shape detectors 8 arranged on the outlet side of the rolling mill and cooling liquid is sprayed from many cooling means 10 arranged in a width direction of the material 5 to be rolled to rolling rolls 2 to control the coolant 7. At that time, fuzzy inference operations are performed by using the absolute value of shape deviation and the deviation of shape and position of many shape detectors 8 to obtain the manipulated variable of the coolant. The amount of cooling liquid is adjusted in accordance with the manipulated variable of the coolant. The factors of the absolute value of shape deviation and the deviation of shape and position are considered and controlled and consequently, all factors of disturbances causing deterioration of shape can be removed and high-precision shape control can be carried out.
