To obtain a method and an apparatus for easily and highly efficiently detoxifying/removing an environment-pollutive organic compound, namely, a volatile organic compound or a low-volatility chlorinated organic compound.
This method for detoxifying the environment-pollutive organic compound comprises the steps of: adding a catalyst substance consisting of basic metal salt to an aqueous solution of the environment-pollutive organic compound and; irradiating the catalyst substance-added aqueous solution with ultrasonic waves. Hydroxyapatite, zeolite, allophane, imogolite, kaolinite or the like is used as the basic metal salt. Natural zeolite, synthetic zeolite or slurry containing amorphous or low-crystallinity zeolite half-synthesized hydrothermally from the aqueous slurry of inorganic waste such as the ash obtained by incinerating rubbish can be used as the zeolite.
