To provide a method for manufacturing glass drops by which glass base materials having arbitrary outer diameters can be obtained in a short cycle at a low cost, and to provide an apparatus for manufacturing the glass drops.
The method for manufacturing glass drops includes: a step for melting glass in a melting furnace 10 equipped with a nozzle 10c; a step for introducing the molten glass into the nozzle 10c by utilizing at least gravity; and a step for injecting the molten glass from the nozzle 10c by imparting an initial speed to the molten glass by changing the ambient pressure at the outside of the nozzle 10c. It becomes thereby possible to inject the molten glass in a shorter cycle in comparison with the case that only gravity is utilized and to suppress an equipment cost low, because the molten glass in the nozzle 10c is injected by utilizing the change of ambient pressure at the outside of the nozzle.
