To provide a method for heat-treating rice grain without using or throwing out excess water.
The method and an apparatus for processing to prepare food products for packaging are provided. The method comprises a step for presteaming, a step for prewashing, a step for steeping in water, a step for steam heating and a step for drying the food products. Chemical additives may be added to the food products during the processing. The apparatus comprises a conveying means (38), steeping tanks (27) and a water recirculation means (30). A dryer (32) including a rotating barrel adapted for agitation of the food products during cooking is provided. The excess water from such steps as the step for steeping and the step for steam-heating is collected as treating water and a part of the water is reused together with fresh water for treating fresh rice grain.
