To provide a method and an apparatus for producing graphite fibers by which the growth of silicon carbide is suppressed and spreading breakage during yarn breakage is suppressed to achieve a remarkable improvement in productivity of the graphite fibers in the method for producing the graphite fibers.
The method for producing the graphite fibers is carried out by continuously baking a plurality of fibers which are to be graphitized and simultaneously run side by side in a high-temperature furnace having ≥2,000°C temperature. The method is characterized in that a movable high-temperature and heat-resistant material is arranged between the fibers to be graphitized and a muffle upper wall of a graphite material composing the high-temperature furnace and the distance between the muffle upper wall and the high-temperature and heat-resistant material is within the range of 5-15 mm.
