Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain briquettes utilizable as an inexpensive iron source from steel making sludge having low utility value and steel making slag powder by mixing the sludge produced in a converter refining stage with the slag powder and a binder and by compression-molding the mixture.

CONSTITUTION: To 100pts.wt. steel making sludge contg. metallic iron produced in a converter refining stage is added 5W30pts.wt., especially 10W15pts.wt. steel making slag powder, and they are charged into a fret mill, ground, and mixed. The mixture is mixed with a small amount of a binder and compression-molded to obtain briquettes. An org. binder is preferably used as the binder. When waste liquor from a pulp manufacturing stage is used, it is added by 1W4wt% of the total amount. In case of polyvinyl alcohol, it is added by 0.05W0.25wt% of the total amount.
