PURPOSE: To case steel ingots having several kinds of shapes with the same casting mold in the production of the longitudinally short steel ingots each having a specific steel ingot ratio by making variable the width, length and height of the longitudinally short steel ingot by insertion of spacers into the casting mold.
CONSTITUTION: The spacer 7 for a short side is disposed on, for example, the short side of the inside surface of the casting mold and a heat insulating sleeve 5 is adhered thereto then the longitudinally short steel ingot having a width W and length L is cast to produce the longitudinally short steel ingot having 0.2W1.0 steel ingot ratio (height/short side length). The spacer 8 for the short side is disposed on the short side on the inside surface of the same mold 1 and the spacer 9 for the long side on the long side. The sleeves 5 are adhered thereto and the longitudinally short ingot having the width W' and the length L' is cast. The longitudinally short steel ingots having the different shapes are thus cast by using the same mold 1 and disposing the different spacers in the casting mold.
