Title:
METHOD OF CLAMPING STEEL PIPE AND THE LIKE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5973250
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To make it possible to clamp works of various sizes, by clamping a work in at least two positions thereof with the use of V-grooved chuck jaws so that an axial deflection of the work is prevented on the side adjacent to the worked section but rotational torque is applied thereto on the side remote from the worked section.

CONSTITUTION: Saw-like teeth 24 are formed in both inclined surfaces of V- grooves 22, 22a formed in the front surfaces of chuck jaws 21, 21a and having an angle of θ. There is provided such an arrangement that, when these chuck jaws 21, 21a are opposed together at both ends of a work therebetween, and are slid in the direction of the center line of a thread cutting machine, the cutting sections 25 of both chuck jaws 21, 21a are fitted onto the projecting sections 26 of the associated jaws each other. Accordingly, even if the size of the work varies to, for example, P1, P2 or P3, the work may be surely clamped by means of the V-grooves 22, 22a in the chuck jaws 21, 21a.
