To provide a method for clarifying contaminated soil by which hardly decomposable organic compounds can be effectively decomposed/detoxicated at an original position/in site and load to environment is low.
At least a pair of electrode tanks (1, 1) in which electrodes (2, 3) are inserted are provided in soil (Sp) and a direct current electric field is applied to remove or decompose contaminants in the soil. A chemical which forms metal oxidized chemical species is made to contain in electrode tank solutions (5) of either or both of a cathode and an anode or a neutralizer added in order to maintain pH of the electrode tank or an electrolyte aqueous solution added in order to maintain electric conduction or pH buffer solution. Then the chemical is sent into the soil (Sp) by electrophoresis or an electroosmosis stream to decompose the contaminants and thereby to clarify the contaminated soil.
