Abstract:
To improve the survival and function of sperms, oocytes and embryos.
The survival and function of sperms, oocytes and embryos are improved in vivo or in vitro by the use of polysaccharides including arabinose, galactose and/or hexuronic acid. In particular, a non-spermicidal lubricant containing such polysaccharides (e.g., gum arabic, pectin, or galacturonic acid) improves the fertilization potential of sperms during coitus, artificial insemination or sperm collection. Similarly, a freezing medium containing the arabinose, galactose and/or hexuronic acid enhances the viability of sperms, oocytes or embryos.
