To provide a method for controlling ink supply quantity and dampening water supply quantity by which it is possible to measure the coating layer thickness, quantity and moisture content of the ink and the dampening water with high precision and properly control the ink supply and the dampening water supply based on the measurement results, even when printing is performed using the ink and the dampening water contained in a mixture of these ingredients and especially, using an Indian ink as conventionally known for its printing difficulty.
A mixture layer on a roller having an electromagnetic wave (infrared radiation and the like) penetration part is irradiated with an electromagnetic wave and the coating layer thickness, quantity and moisture content of the ink coating layer and the dampening water coating layer are measured by detecting the electromagnetic wave penetrating the mixture layer. Then based on the measurement results, the divergence of an ink key, the number of revolution of an ink fountain roller or the number of revolution of a water fountain roller is examined to obtain its proper control level, which is, in turn, fed back.
