To prepare a medicine for the treatment or prophylaxis of the state of atherosclerosis through lowering the plasma level of a lipoprotein (apo) and/or heightening the plasma level of a high-density lipoprotein by adopting a specific compound.

This medicine for the treatment or prophylaxis of the state of atherosclerosis is prepared by adopting a compound which is an antagonistic drug to platelet activating factors and/or its structurally related compound not having antagonistic activity. The compound is preferably a compound of the formula [wherein, A is a group having CH=CH or the like and forming (substituted) benzo- or thieno-ring; Q is =N or CR4=; X is N, S or O and may have an adjacent double bond when X is N; Y is =N or =CR (wherein, R is H, methyl or the like), Z is N= or CR'= (wherein, R' is H, methyl or the like) and at least one of Y and Z is N; R1 is H, a halogen or the like; R3 is H, OH or the like; R4 is H, methyl or the like] or the like.
