Abstract:
To reduce the effect of an error or erroneous detection due to deterioration caused by elongation or contamination of an encoder slit.
When recording is carried out by scanning a recording medium with a carriage mounting a recording head having recording elements and a timing signal for defining the driving timing of the recording element is generated, periods of rising and falling edges of a pulse signal being delivered from an encoder depending on the position of the carriage in the scanning direction are measured. Edges not satisfying specified conditions are masked and the period of the timing signal is calculated based on the period of an edge satisfying the specified conditions out of the measured periods.
