To provide a method for cutting-off a side rim of a different thickness steel plate, which is excellent in working efficiency, and also is able to cut-off the different thickness steel plate such that squareness between a stepped portion and a side rim after cutting-off is correct.
Laser slit light 8 is projected from a laser projector 7 of a datum line setting unit 2 toward the stepped portion 1c of the different thickness steel plate 1. The circumstances of the laser slit light 8 are photographed by a camera. Based on the image photographed by the camera, the different thickness steel plate 1 is positioned by adjusting the position thereof using an aligning apparatus (not shown) such that the projected laser slit light 9 projected on the different thickness steel plate 1 coincides with the stepped portion 1c. After positioning, both side rims of the different thickness steel plate 1 are cut-off using a side shear along cutting-off lines 10a, 10b so as to get a required plate width W.
