To provide a method for desulfurizing molten iron with which an impeller desulfurization can effectively and economically be performed by sufficiently demonstrating the desulfurizing function of ingot-making slag.
This method for desulfurizing the molten iron includes: a step for storing the ingot-making slag having composition of, by mass ratio, 25-40% AL2O3, ≤5% T.Fe and 5.5-7.0 basicity (CaO/SiO2) and remaining in a ladle at the finishing time of casting, into a slag collecting vessel; and a step for selecting only the high temperature and granular ingot-making slag from the ingot-making slag stored at the above step. The high temperature and granular ingot-making slag selected at the above step is mixed with CaO based desulfurizing agent so that the ingot-making slag ratio becomes 10-40%, by mass ratio, and charged into the molten iron in the ladle to apply the impeller-desulfurization. Further, in this method for desulfurizing the molten iron, it is preferable that the temperature of the ingot-making slag selected as the desulfurizing agent is ≥300°C.
