To provide a method for electrochemically detecting genes, capable of detecting the hybridization of an target gene and a nucleic acid probe, in a time which is shorter than that of the electrochemical method by using an intercalator, and with a safety process which is further simplified than that of the method.
The method for detecting genes includes the steps of: inserting a gold electrode with a single-stranded nucleic acid probe fixed to a surface thereof to an electrolyte solution containing an target gene, which has a base sequence complementary to the target gene; performing galvanic deposition of copper ions with the gold electrode as a working electrode, after the addition of copper ions; checking a change in the galvanic deposition phenomenon by hybridization of the nucleic acid probe and the target gene; and then detecting the target gene.
