Abstract:

To detect various kinds of recording media without changing specifications of a printer driver and a recording apparatus.

The recording system comprises: the recording apparatus which is equipped with a media sensor for detecting the kind of the recording medium fed by a paper feeding means, and which performs recording onto the recording medium; and host equipment wherein the printer driver for driving the recording apparatus is installed. The recording apparatus transmits media information ID and the result of detection by the media sensor to the printer driver, when receiving a request signal for issuing instructions on the detection of the recording medium from the printer driver. The printer driver checks a value of a lower-order bit of the media information ID (S7) when the result of the detection is G2 (S6), and determines the kind of the recording medium depending on the value (S8-S11).
