Abstract:

To prevent the drive of a recording element, which cannot perform normal recording not only in a normal recording mode but also in a maintenance mode, by a simple constitution.

In a serial type recording apparatus, recording data are stored in a print buffer 3; the recording data for use in the maintenance mode are stored in a recording data memory 4 for maintenance; and the data, which are stored in either the print buffer or the recording data memory for maintenance, are output by being selected by a selector 5 depending on the set mode. In terms of the data output from the selector, driving data on a defective nozzle are masked by an NG nozzle data mask 6, in accordance with information on the defective nozzle incapable of performing the normal recording, which is stored in an NG nozzle data register.
