To provide a method and a device for forming an element for a transmission belt, capable of improving durability of the element by preventing edge-contact between the saddle surface of the element and the inner periphery surface of a ring.

The method is directed for forming an element 1 constituting a transmission belt B by annularly arranging a plurality of plate-like pieces opposed to each other while aligning their postures and by binding the pieces with rings 9. In the method for forming an element for a transmission belt, the element 1 having a saddle surface 10, which is brought into contact with an inner periphery surface 9a of the ring 9 when bound with the ring 9, is formed by press-forming in which a plate-like material 25 is compacted and punched. In the method, the material 25 is arranged in such a state that a plate face 25a of the material 25 is inclined relative to a plane P orthogonal to the pressing direction in press-forming, and press-forming is conducted under the state to form the element 1.
