To provide a method and a device for measuring shear strength of a ground by which ground information serving as base data for slope collapse prediction and others at the time of heavy rain can be measured easily at many points even in an irregular ground slope.
In a method for measuring shear strength of ground, a circular rotation plane having a cutting blade in at least one earth removal port which is installed at the tip of a rod is used, and by applying a specific thrust to the rod the circular rotation place is penetrated to the ground or is rotated in such a direction that the rake angle of the cutting blade in the circular rotation plane is positive and the circular rotation plane is penetrated to the ground while cutting the ground. When the circular rotation plane reaches a prescribed measured depth, the vertical stress acting on the undersurface of the circular rotation plane is changed through the rod while the circular rotation plane is turned reversely relative to the rotation direction at the time of cutting so that the ground is cut on the bottom surface of the circular rotation plane and corresponding values of adhesive strength and friction strength of the ground are separated from vertical stress and torque so as to measure the shear strength of ground.
