PURPOSE: To obtain the circular columnar product correctly having spherical faces at both ends with the volume in a proper quantity by executing heading with the closed die whose bottom part of a die hole shows a spherical face so as to project an excess metal between a punch and die.

CONSTITUTION: A blank 1 is upset to a die 15 by a punch 11 at preheading stage to form a conical tapered face at one end of the blank 1 by the tapered bottom 15a of a die hole. When it is upset into the die hole of a die 16 with its front and back reversely, a conical tapered face is formed at the other end of a blank 11 by a tapered bottom 16a to obtain the blank 12 having conical tapered faces at both ends of a circular columnar part. This is upset to a die 17 by a punch 13 and the tapered face is deformed in a spherical face inside the die hole of closed dies 13a, 17a. Simultaneously the excess metal is projected into the gap S between the punch 13 and die 17. It is then pushed into a die 18 by the following punch 14, projecting flange-like body is punched and subjected to finishing and the circular columnar product having spherical faces at both ends is obtd.
