To provide a method for driving a printer incorporating an imaging device capable of performing a printing operation and an inexpediency-free imaging operation at a low cost.
The printer equipped with a device for internally making a printing plate is driven by a motor which drives a cylinder for conveying a matter to be printed and plate cylinders 14 and 15 through a gear transmission device during a printing operation. The plat cylinders 14 and 15 are driven by a gear belonging to a drive device for the plate cylinders 14 and 15 and an adjacent gear belonging to a drive device for the cylinder which conveys the matter to be printed, during manufacturing the printing plate, in such a way that both gears do not come into contact with each other or move under a slight contact pressure between the gears, with the help of discrete second motors 29 and 30.
