Abstract:
To provide a technique for effectively utilizing lignocellulose by manufacturing a levulinic ester and levulinic acid by the solvolysis of lignocellulose and concurrently manufacturing a polyol compound applicable as a raw material of a chemical.
The method for effectively utilizing lignocellulose comprises solvolysis of lignocellulose using a decomposition reagent, a water treatment of the decomposition product, fractionation of the decomposition product into a water-soluble portion and a water-insoluble portion, separation of the levulinic ester or levulinic acid from the water-soluble portion, and separation of the polyol compound from the water-insoluble portion.
