Abstract:
PURPOSE:To generate efficiently hydrogen and to produce efficiently electric current by fixing cytochrome c3 on the surface of an electrically conductive solid electrode at a prescribed rate of covering and by using the resulting electrode as the electrode of a hydrogen electrode. CONSTITUTION:An electrically conductive solid electrode is immersed in a cytochrome c3 soln. to manufacture an electrode having cytochrome c3 fixed on the surface at >=20% rate of covering. A monomolecular layer may be formed at the maximum rate of covering. The resulting electrode for a hydrogen electrode is placed in a buffer soln. contg. a conjugating oxidation-reduction substance with cytochrome c3 such as hydrogenase, nitrogenase or ferredoxin, and hydrogen generation and dissociation reactions are caused. By this method, hydrogen is efficiently generated using electric energy, and electric current is efficiently produced from hydrogen.
