PURPOSE: To utilize Al residual ash as a heat generating or insulating material or a slag forming material during steel manufacture by mixing the ash with vegetable fibers, a water soluble binder and water and molding the mixture to a proper shape and size.
CONSTITUTION: About 100pts.wt. finely powdered Al residual ash (Al ash) is mixed and kneaded with about 1W10pts.wt. vegetable fibers such as paper pulp or pulp recovered from wastepaper, about 0.5W5pts.wt. org. water soluble binder such as CMC or corn starch and about 10W30pts.wt. water. The mixture is filled into molds after being kneaded and molded or extrusion-molded and the resulting pellets or briquettes are cut to a proper size and used. Thus, the hardly utilizable finely powdered Al residual ash is wet-granulated without causing foaming and expansion due to generated gaseous ammonia and the granulated ash can be utilized as a heat generating or insulating material or a slag forming material during steel manufacture.
