PURPOSE: To obtain an initialization method for attaining good rewriting characteristic in an optical disk in which optical recording film capable of recording information by the irradiation of energy beam is used.
CONSTITUTION: The initialization is performed for the disk formed in order of a protective layer 2, a recording film 3, an intermediate layer 4 and a reflection layer 5 on a base board 1 by both a laser beam irradiation and a flash light irradiation that beam is instantaneously irradiated within a short time. At first, the laser beam irradiation is performed and the crystalline state is made by the flash light irradiation. When the tracking is not applied since the reflectance is low, the reflectance is increased by the flash light irradiation and then, the laser irradiation is performed. In both embodiments, the change of the reflectance and the change of C/N in the crystalline part do not occur even if many rewriting are performed by the laser beam that the power modulation is performed between the crystallizing power level and the power level realizing a nearly amorphous state.
