To provide a method in which iodine is separated and recovered, the iron (III) ions to be used are regenerated by iron oxide microorganisms, and copper sulfide ore is efficiently leached, in a method for leaching copper with a sulfuric acid solution comprising iodine ions and iron (III) ions in a surplus amount to the iodine ions.
In the method for leaching copper sulfide ore, in which copper is leached from copper sulfide ore with a sulfuric acid solution comprising iodide ions and iron (III) ions in a surplus amount to the iodide ions as a leachate, in the solution obtained after the copper leaching step, the content of iodine is reduced to <1 mg/L by activated carbon treatment, thereafter, the iron (II) ions in the same solution or newly added iron (II) ions are oxidized into iron (III) ions by iron oxide microorganisms, the acid aqueous solution comprising the same iron (III) ions and the aqueous solution comprising the iodine are mixed, and the mixture is utilized as a leachate for copper sulfide ore.
