To provide a method for manufacturing a cam lobe providing a cam top with wear and abrasion resistance and scuff resistance and capable of preventing the breakage of the peripheral edge of the opening of a base circle occurring accompanying therewith during the increase of the diameter of a shaft part.
In a method for manufacturing a cam lobe 3 formed approximately in an ovoid figure and positioned concentrically to a shaft and composed of a base circle 4 in which an opening 6 is formed; and a cam top 5 larger in a shape radius than that of the base circle 4, and the cam lobe 3 used in an assembled cam shaft, the method comprises a step wherein the cylindrical part of a jig for heat treatment is inserted in the opening 6 formed in each of a plurality of cam lobes 3; a step wherein the cam lobes 3 are stacked in a manner that cam tops 5 of the adjoining cam lobes 3 point in directions different from each other centering around the axis of the cylindrical part; and a step wherein the cam lobes 3 in an stacked state are thermally treated.
