To provide a method of manufacturing a honeycomb structure catalyst that partially impregnates a honeycomb structure comprising a porous substrate with an aqueous medium and applies a catalyst composition to the partially impregnated honeycomb structure by a wash coating method, and a honeycomb structure catalyst partially different in the amount of a catalyst component manufactured by the method.
The honeycomb structure using a porous inorganic oxide as a substrate is partially introduced into a container containing an aqueous medium to immerse the underside-opened end surface of the honeycomb structure in the aqueous medium so that the through-holes on the outer periphery of the honeycomb structure is deeply impregnated with the aqueous medium and the through-holes on the center of the honeycomb structure is shallowly impregnated with the aqueous medium. This impregnated honeycomb structure is succeedingly coated with a catalyst composition slurry by the wash coating method without being dried and then baked to manufacture the honeycomb structure catalyst.
