Abstract:
To provide a method for promoting reuse of a magnet used in an electric motor.SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a magnet material includes a demagnetization step of irreversibly demagnetizing a permanent magnet by thermal demagnetization by heating a shaped permanent magnet in the presence of a reducing substance having a stronger reducing property than nitrogen molecules, and a cooling step of cooling the demagnetized permanent magnet to manufacture a shaped magnet material. The magnetic material having a thickness of 30 μm or more contains a rare earth element and a transition metal element as main components. In the magnetic material, a ratio of carbon concentration in the surface region, which is a region within 10 μm from the surface of the magnet material, to the carbon concentration in an inner region, which is a region located above 10 μm from the surface of the magnet material and has a thickness of 10 μm is 1.1 or higher.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
