To provide a method for manufacturing a metallic or plastic or ceramic component with open holes, which has definite slit dimensions, and a definite outer shell thickness if needed, and is low in density.
In the invented method, minute carrier material preferably such as quartz sand or quartz powder is formed into balls as uniform as possible by a forming process. The balls are bonded at respective contact points by a hardening process in a state of placing the balls in a desired outer die, and a bridge of binder is formed at each contact point. The balls bonded to each other by the bridging or fusion of the binder are separated from the outer die and are placed in another desired outer die or a permanent die. Then cavities among the balls are filled with liquid metal or alloy, or a liquid plastic or ceramic compound by using a heretofore known casting process, preferably a low-pressure casting process. After the metal or compound is solidified, the ball material is removed and/or washed out from the solidified metal or compound by vibration and/or water flushing.
