To provide a method for manufacturing a piezoelectric ceramic whose variation of composition is made small and whose characteristics are improved.
The piezoelectric ceramic is manufactured containing a perovskite-type compound M1m(Nb1-zTaz)O3 (M1 is a group 1 element in the long-period type periodic table) as a main component. After being mixed, the raw materials for the compound are calcined a plurality of times at temperature higher than the temperature where the formation of the perovskite-type compound is started. Each temperature at the time when the calcination is repeated is higher than the preceding calcination temperature. The raw materials are subjected to dry pulverizing and mixing between the repeating time for calcination. Thus, the raw materials are sufficiently reacted so that the variation of the composition is made small.
