Abstract:

To provide a manufacturing method providing a rolling bearing retainer ensuring excellent fatigue strength and abrasion resistance even under severe use conditions and suppressing heat-treatment deformation to a low level.

Steel material is processed into a predetermined shape. After that, the steel material is subjected to gas nitriding treatment under a condition in which temperature rises continuously from start temperature of 350-520C to end temperature of 550-700C, and then is cooled rapidly. Steel containing, 0.01-0.20 mass% C, 0.05-1.0 mass% Mn, 0.03 mass% P, 0.05 mass% S, 0.01-0.1 mass% Al, 0.2-2.0 mass% Cr, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities is used as the steel forming the material.
