Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a screw shaft of a ball screw capable of providing a screw shaft of higher durability, with higher productivity than a conventional method.SOLUTION: Normalizing treatment is done with a material for a screw shaft made from a steel in which [C]=0.52-1.2 mass%, [Si]=0.1-2.0 mass%, [Mn]=0.1-2.0 mass%, [Cr]=0.1-2.0 mass%, [Mo]≤0.10 mass%, with a remaining portion being Fe and inevitable impurities, with a DI value being 3.2-8.7, so that the system of the steel of the material is a uniform ferrite + pearlite system or a pearlite system which does not contain martensitic system. Then, a groove formation step in which a spiral groove is formed by a grinding process is performed, and then, a hardened layer of predetermined depth is formed in the spiral groove by a high frequency quenching method.
