Abstract:
To provide a sliding member with improved adhesion between the surface of a base material of aluminum or aluminum alloy and a silver coating, and to provide a method for manufacturing the same.
A piston 1 includes a sliding surface 22 that slides within a cylinder bore 3. The piston 1 is provided, on the outer peripheral surface 11 of a body 10 of aluminum alloy, with an aluminum/silver diffusion layer 27 formed as a result of joining the aluminum alloy with silver. A silver coating layer 21 composing the sliding surface 22 is formed on the aluminum silver diffusion layer 27.
