Title:
METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING STEEL PIPE SUPERIOR IN FATIGUE STRENGTH
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2010189758
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide a method for manufacturing a steel pipe for a hollow component, which has improved fatigue strength by suppressing the occurrence of a decarburized layer.

This manufacturing method includes: inserting a solid carburizing agent which includes 1-20 mass% of an alkali metal carbonate and the balance comprising one or more of charcoal, graphite, coal and coke and unavoidable impurities, into the inside of the steel pipe having the length of 15-120 m in an amount of 0.05 μg or more per 1 mm2 of the surface area of the inner face of the steel pipe; attaching a plug to both ends; induction-heating the steel pipe; and diameter-reduction-rolling the steel pipe in the hot state. Thereby, the method can diameter-reduction-roll the steel pipe in the hot state without forming the decarburized layer in the inner part of the long steel pipe having the length of 15-120 m and can effectively manufacture the steel pipe having high fatigue strength. The method can manufacture a thick-wall electric-resistance weld steel pipe having superior fatigue characteristics in particular, which is preferably used as a raw material for a hollow stabilizer and the like, and remarkably contributes to the industry.
