In the method of manufacturing the thermal transfer image receiving sheet having a receiving layer formed from a resin having at least color dyeing property on the surface of a thermoplastic resin film constituting a base material, a step for forming the receiving layer is a step for applying a coating liquid for forming the receiving layer on a material to be coated by kiss reverse gravure coating, a center angle θin a contact of a gravure roll having a diameter RG (mm) with the material to be coated has relation 1 of 100≤RGθ≤1,500 and relation 2 of the diameter RG (mm) of the gravure roll and a distance WB (mm) between the centers of the gravure roll and a guide roll direct before the gravure roll satisfies 0.6≤WB/RG≤1.2.
