Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for observing a lithium ion battery, by which a correct microscope observation can be performed even if a section for observation is formed by a mechanical cutting process.SOLUTION: A method for observing a lithium ion battery comprises the steps of: preparing an observation cell having a cell main body (30) housing a holding tool (42) for holding a test lithium ion battery, which has a positive electrode plate, a negative electrode plate and a separator, and a flange (31) engaged with the cell main body in a hermetic manner, in which an observation window including a transparent plate (36) is formed; subsequently, cutting a test lithium ion battery along a reference plane provided on the holding tool, thereby forming an observing section (42a) orthogonal to the positive and negative electrode plates; further, removing an active material put out of a network of the battery owing to the cutting process; filling a deformable transparent filler in between the transparent plate and the observing section; and casting an illumination light on the observing section of the lithium ion battery structure through the transparent plate and the transparent filler to take an image of the observing section of the lithium ion battery structure in observation.
