To smooth the passage of a succeeding rolled stock through a truck in the case that the rear end of the preceding rolled stock and the tip of the succeeding rolled stock can not be joined due to defective butting between them on a continuous hot rolling line.
In a method in which a truck 8 for joining which freely travels back and forth along the conveying direction of the rolled stock to be rolled with a roughing mill while pushing down elevating/lowering table rolls 9, 16 which interfere with the truck is arranged between the roughing mill and a finishing mill provided on a continuous hot rolling line and by which, after the rear end part of the preceding rolled stock and the tip part of the succeeding rolled stock rolled with the roughing mill are clamped with clamping devices 12, 13 provided on the truck 8 for joining and butted, the butted part is joined with a joining machine provided on the truck 8 for joining, in the case that the butted state of the rear end of the preceding rolled stock with the tip of the succeeding rolled stock at the time of clamping and butting them with the clamping devices 12, 13 is defective, the clamps of the clamping devices 12, 13 are released and also, after elevating and lowering the elevating/ lowering table roll 16 in front of the truck 8 for joining, the succeeding rolled stock is passed through the elevating/lowering table roll 16 which is elevated and lowered.
