Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a self-adhesive product excellent in the balance between self-adhesive power and cohesive power by selecting a polymerization method permitting reduction in the amount of a smelly and irritative residual vinyl acetate monomer and that of a low-molecular weight matter adversely affecting self-adhesive properties in manufacturing a polymer for a self-adhesive using the vinyl acetate monomer.
SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the polymer for the self-adhesive comprises radically polymerizing a monomer component essentially comprising at least one alkyl (meth)acrylate and vinyl acetate, where 70-100 mass% of vinyl acetate employed and a part of a monomer other than vinyl acetate are charged into a reactor in advance to initiate the polymerization and subsequently the rest of the monomer component is charged into the reactor to continue the polymerization.
