Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a predicting method for breakout in a continuous casting excellent in the workability and the reliability, in which the growth condition of a solidified shell in a mold can be grasped in extremely accuracy and consequently, a temp. abnormal part in the mold can surely be caught and any breakout pattern can be predicted.
SOLUTION: Pulse light is incident on an optical fiber 22 fitted so as to embed or expose at the operating surface side of the mold 13 for continuous casting and a Raman scattering light at the rear part generated at a prescribed position of the optical fiber 22 is detected. The temp. at a prescribed position of the mold 13 for continuous casting is detected based on the intense ratio of a stokes light and a reverse stokes light and the return-back time.
