To provide a double metal cyanide complex catalyst that is capable of shortening an induction period to reaction initiation without increasing an amount of addition of the catalyst in ring-opening polymerization of an alkylene oxide using the double metal cyanide complex catalyst.
The method comprises the steps of causing a halide of (a) a first metal (Ma) to react with (b) a transition metal cyanide compound to produce (c) a nonaqueous double metal cyanide compound, then substituting the first metal (Ma) in this nonaqueous double metal cyanide compound with the second metal (Mb) to produce (d) a water soluble double metal cyanide compound and further causing the water soluble double metal cyanide compound to react with (e) an organic ligand and (f) a halide of the second metal (Mb) to obtain the double metal cyanide complex catalyst.
