Abstract:

To provide a method for producing 1,1,1,3,3-pentachloropropane with which operation is suitable for mass production and the yield is high with good selectivity by reacting carbon tetrachloride with vinyl chloride.

The method for producing the 1,1,1,3,3-pentachloropropane comprises reacting the carbon tetrachloride with the vinyl chloride in the presence of a catalyst. A chlorine organic compound is added as a solvent when iron and an amide compound in an amount sufficient to produce effects of reaction acceleration are used as the catalyst. Thereby, the reaction is accelerated.
