Abstract:

To provide a method for safely producing a 2,4,5-trialkylbenzaldehyde useful as an intermediate for various chemical products, especially a raw material for pyromellitic acid anhydride, from a 1,2,4-trialkylbenzene at a low cost.

This method for producing a 2,4,5-trialkylbenzaldehyde comprises carbonylation of a 1,2,4-trialkylbenzene with carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst and is characterized by that trifluoromethanesulfonic acid is essential as the catalyst.
