Abstract:
To provide a method for producing an acetoacetic acid ester in high purity while producing little by-product.
The method for the production of an acetoacetic acid ester comprises the reaction of a diketene with a benzyl alcohol compound in the presence of a solvent by using a nitrogen-containing cyclic organic base as a catalyst to form the corresponding acetoacetic acid ester. The nitrogen-containing cyclic organic base includes a cyclic amine. The benzyl alcohol compound may be p-nitrobenzyl alcohol. An aromatic solvent is included in the solvent.
