Abstract:

To provide a method for producing an aluminum composite material having improved heat resistance.

An aluminum alloy as a base material is infiltrated into a preform formed of at least either ceramics fiber or ceramics particles as a reinforcing material to produce an aluminum matrix composite material. In this case, the aluminum alloy contains, by weight, 1 to 6% magnesium and also contains, by volume, 3 to 20% titanium boride, and the aluminum alloy is melted at 750 to 850°C and is further infiltrated into the preform under the pressure of 5 to 50 MPa. By this production method, the aluminum matrix composite material whose heat resistance is further improved can be obtained.
