A method for producing an aromatic polymer includes a step of polymerizing an aromatic polymer represented as (A) and an aromatic polymer represented as (B), in the presence of a palladium complex having at least one phosphine ligand represented as formula (1), a base and an organic solvent. (A) an aromatic polymer having at least two boron-containing functional groups, and (B) an aromatic polymer having at least two reactive functional groups (different from a boron-containing functional group). (In the formula, Ar¹, Ar² and Ar³ each independently represents an aryl group, and at least one of them has an electron-donating substituent).
