There is provided the method for producing a cyclopropyl alkyl ketone represented by formula (3) by which the cyclopropyl alkyl ketone is obtained by catalytically reacting a carboxylic acid ester with a γ-lactone in the presence of a catalyst containing a basic solid catalyst in the vapor phase. [In formula (3), R² represents a 1-4C alkyl group; and R³ represents H or a 1-4C alkyl group].
